Hydrocarbons Layer Measurement

LEAKWISE sensors use a patented, high-frequency Electromagnetic Absorption Technique to perform hydrocarbons layer measurement on water. Each floating sensor houses a high-frequency electromagnetic energy transmitter and a receiving antenna which continuously monitor the liquid surface. Since water absorbs more electromagnetic energy than hydrocarbons, changes in the absorption rate of water indicate the presence or buildup of hydrocarbons.

The LEAKWISE sensors not only enable reliable detection of hydrocarbons, but also measure the thickness of the hydrocarbon layers and the percent of water in oily emulsions.

LEAKWISE sensors can also be used to detect the interface between any two immiscible liquids with different absorption rates. No other hydrocarbon leak detection or alert system does this.

Hydrocarbon leak alert

The need for hydrocarbons leak alert is particularly acute for petrochemical facilities, both refineries and storage sites.

When oil separators in such facilities fail to manage large amounts of water, then water pollution might rapidly follow. If no hydrocarbons leak alert system is installed, however, it may be some time before the leak is detected. That is why an on-line hydrocarbons leak detection system is so critical.

Hydrocarbon leak detection

The LEAKWISE hydrocarbon leak detection sensors combine several features which improve leak detection reliability including digital sensing, increased sensitivity and alarm filtering – adjustment of the alarm threshold to reduce the incidence of false positives. In addition to these features the LEAKWISE hydrocarbon leak detection sensors are robust, enjoying a long lifetime and continued performance even following persistent contact with hydrocarbon polluted water.

The Leakwise hydrocarbon leak detection sensor is applicable to a variety of environments including but not limited to petrochemical facilities, power generation and distribution plants, transportation centers and thoroughfares, manufacturing, water treatment and offshore sites.
